Working in or with open source communities has become the norm for the majority of software professionals. In this talk, we’ll look at how open source communities work and how you can get the best out of your interactions with them.
- Why do some communities succeed for decades while others never get off the ground?
- If you adopt community software, how should you interact with the community?
- If you’re a maintainer, how do you interact with your adopters?
Join me as we examine successful (and not so successful) open source communites to find out what makes them tick.
Objective of the presentation:
I'm often amazed how little folks participating think about how these communities work: What can you expect from a community, why would people participate in your community, how do you know a community is viable? I'd like to get folks to think more about these questions in order for them to interact more successfully.
