Papyrus aims at becoming the de facto standard for UML/SysML modeling. The objective is to establish a vibrant community composed of end-user companies, technology providers, and research/academia to drive the development of a complete industrial-strength open source model-based engineering tool solution.

Why Attend the Summit?

Developer summits improve collaboration, foster innovation, and establish the current focus to nourish an efficient MDE toolset. On Tuesday, October 28th, the Papyrus and Modeling Technologies Developer Summit at EclipseCon Europe 2014 will focus on a set of Eclipse projects that are key to the establishment of the overall Papyrus-based solution, and will bring together Eclipse committers to discuss issues and improvements regarding these projects. The Summit provides a valuable opportunity to find out about the latest improvements and to influence the future of the projects.

Some of the topics to be covered at the Summit are

  • Eclipse Git Team Provider
  • EMF Compare
  • Eclipse Platform Compare Framework
  • EMF Validation
  • Gerrit, Reviews Connector: Gerrit
  • GMF Tooling & GMF Runtime
  • NatTable
  • OCL
  • Papyrus
  • QVTo
  • UML2

What's Happening with Papyrus

The Eclipse Luna release is marking a major milestone in open source modeling tools. Eclipse is now providing a robust toolset for DSML (Domain-Specific Modeling Languages), UML (Unified Modeling Language), and SysML (Systems Modeling Language), based on Papyrus 1.0. Papyrus can be used for the whole development cycle, from systems engineering to software development. Early industrial adopters of Papyrus have shown interesting results, such as Esterel Technologies with ScadeSystem for SysML, ALL4Tec with Safety Architect, Ericsson for various DSMLs and modeling contexts, SolutionsIQ with NIEM Modeling Tool, Sherpa Engineering with PhiSystem, Aldebaran for robotics, and Airbus, EADS Astrium, and SpaceBel with their internal modeling tool.

The Papyrus project is coming out of incubation, and this ecosystem is now accelerating. One of the new initiatives is a collaboration among CEA, Ericsson, Zeligsoft, and Malina Software to build a Papyrus UML-RT, including modeling, code generation, team-working, and run-time features. This also involves notable R&D projects, such as MAENAD, OpenETCS, Agesys, Connexion, OpenES, ROMEO II, and more.

The Papyrus customizations (such as RobotML for robotics system design) are coming from various domains (railway, robotics, automotive, telecom, space, energy, and smart grids) and involve additional concerns such as model-safety analysis, model simulation, team-working, code-generation, and variability modeling.

How to Sign Up

To register for the Summit, contribute to the agenda, or just to learn more, see the Summit wiki page.

Plans include a dinner on Tuesday evening for Summit attendees, and attendance is limited. (Yes, there will be beer!)
