Git It Done - Git, Gerrit and GitHub at Orion
Using Git should be fun and easy - but often it can be frustrating and unforgiving.
The Orion team took this challenge on and completely redesigned our Git integration and developer experience. We have restructured our page layouts, streamlined workflows, and have added some cool new features intended to make working with Git a pleasant and efficient experience.
Git can be scary for a new user, and exposing the power of Git without overwhelming the novice user was a very interesting design challenge. The first part of the talk will explain how we resolved these problems to build pages that are both easier for Orion adopters to embed and extend, and for developers to use in their key work flows.
For the second part of the talk, we'll take a tour of the new git page and look at the new workflows. We'll examine repository management, pushing/fetching commits, tagging and branching. We will examine the log view and see the various operations that can be performed on it. We will conclude by taking a look at our existing Gerrit and Github integrations.
