This session goes beyond the 12 factor app by diving deeper into the additions and revisions added in the 15 factor app methodology. We'll explore why these additions and revisions were necessary and why this methodology can be affective as a guide to building applications that are able to thrive in the cloud. We'll then explore some of the Open Source tools and technologies that can enable these factors, specifically looking at many of the MicroProfile APIs (e.g. MicroProfile OpenTelemetry, MicroProfile Health, MicroProfile Metrics and MicroProfile JWT). In addition to introductory slides, there will also be a demo given to walk attendees through how they can utilise these OSS tools. This demo and other relevant labs that will be referenced within this presentation will be available for attendees to try after the session to get hands on with the technologies covered.
By the end of this session attendees will have an understanding of the 15 factor app methodology, why and how it can help developers to create effective cloud-native applications and how they themselves can achieve these behaviours in their own application through the use of OSS tools and technologies. They will also have access to interactive labs (that will be demonstrated during the session) to enable them to cement this knowledge and experience these technologies themselves.
Attendees do not need any prerequisites and don't need any specific knowledge before joining the session, although a basic understanding of Java will be helpful for the demo part of this session.
